The Battle of Quebec could be making a long-awaited return later this season.
In their showdown against the Montreal Canadiens on Jan. 29, 2026, the Colorado Avalanche may be allowed to wear their blue Quebec Nordiques retro jerseys while the Habs don their iconic red uniforms, Sportsnet's Eric Engels reported Monday from the NHL Board of Governors meeting.
The Avalanche brought back the jersey as a celebration for the franchise's 30th season and were set to wear them for seven games this year. They requested approval from the NHL to wear them for an eighth time for their meeting in Montreal.
Canadiens CEO Geoff Molson said he hasn't been asked yet by the league, but would happily approve if they do.
Colorado wore the jersey when the Avs hosted the Habs on Nov. 29 and against the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 23. The Hurricanes wore a throwback Hartford Whalers sweater for that showdown.
Here's a full list of the remaining games in which the Avalanche will wear Nordiques jerseys:
• Jan. 3, 2026, at Carolina Hurricanes
• Jan. 12, 2026, vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
• Jan. 29, 2026, at Montreal Canadiens (if approved)
• March 16, 2026, vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
• April 1, 2026, vs. Vancouver Canucks
• April 11, 2026, vs. Vegas Golden Knights
